A park by the East River is an evocative site for a
dérive into a psychic zone created by vestiges of the industrial past, present industrial activities, rapid gentrification, and traces of the natural world.

Participants may use an audio guide
and a field guide, with pictures of some of the flowers that
might be spotted in the park in September, as companions to their explorations.







Rare and endangered plant species native to this habitat are represented by small painted rocks and pieces of rubble which will be hidden around the park where they might want to grow if they could.






A map will help participants locate these small effigies of disappearing life.








By closely observing the great variety of plants in the park and being aware of the plants that could be there but aren’t, perhaps the dérivists will have an altered perception of the site. Perhaps they will notice how our perception of a space is influenced by the way plants grow in it.
